Hotel Review: Wild Rose Casino And Resort— Clinton, Iowa

While this is typically a television blog, I think that throwing out some randomness is acceptable and will keep things fresh as I embark on the journey to bring this blog back to life!

This past weekend (Mar 1st through March 3rd) my husband and I traveled to Clinton, Iowa for a weekend alone. It has been nearly three years since our first son was born, and we have only been away from him two nights, which happened to be when our second son was born. As the parents of two small children, alone time doesn’t happen. A month ago my mother-in-law suggested a weekend getaway for us and offered to keep the boys. We booked a weekend at the Wild Rose Casino and Resort. I originally wanted the jacuzzi suite, but that was unavailable. My husband got us set up in a deluxe king, which was satisfactory for me.

As we drove there, I began thinking about what we planned to do and whether or not it was worth leaving the boys behind. They were in good hands, but still, a little (okay, a lot!) of mom anxiety was kicking in! It didn’t help that the roads were shit driving there either!

Once we arrived, it was confusing on where to go to check in. After it took my husband what seemed like an eternity to figure it out, we found ourselves getting settled in our room! It was fantastic! Huge was a understatment! The bed was big and the bathroom was bigger than anything I had seen in a hotel! It was a nice change from the one I had in the hotel we stayed at in Mississippi two weeks prior! The room was clean. The only downfall? No smoking in the rooms! (Boo!)

We checked out the casino immediately. It was way smaller than I expected, but the games were fun. We found a few good machines (Carnival, Zeus, and Instant Riches) that we really, really liked. We won some, and lost more! Overall, it was a fun experience in there. It was interesting that you could smoke in the casino, but not in the hotel.

Food was amazing at the Coaches Corner. Best Angus burger I have had anywhere. Also, their buffalo wings were fantastic. I had a ranch wrap the first night, and it was good, but nothing compared to the Angus burger I tasted from hubby and the one I got the next night. Wait staff was friendly, and both of them got tipped well for their service. Only issue– they don’t carry 151!!! Who doesn’t carry that shit?!

Sawmill buffet was HORRIBLE! We planned that as our dinner for the second night there. We paid nearly $28 and ate MAYBE two plates between the two of us, and that included dessert. There was not much to choose from and what was available was either overdone, or just looked horrific. I chose to eat a salad from the minimal choices. The salad was good, but not worth the $14. My husband grabbed some fish and chicken, but he didn’t eat either. The chicken was dry and the fish was covered in spices. I actually enjoyed the fish, but again, not worth $14. So we wasted nearly $30 and went hungry. Coaches Corner is the way to go!

All in all, I would give this place a 4 out of 5 overall, with only mark down being for the buffet crapola! We will definitely be coming back, hopefully this summer!

Blindsided Blog Tour — Win a Copy of the Book!

As some of you may have seen before, I absolutely adore the writing of Kyra Lennon. When I first read her book, “Game On”, I was amazed at how captivating it was. I read chapter after chapter and always had new questions in my head. I played out different scenarios, and even may have had a little crush on the pompous ass himself, Radleigh! (Don’t judge me!) I have the pleasure of knowing and working with Ms. Lennon. She is a doll and a very, very talented writer.

Now, you may be wondering how to win a free paperback copy. Well, all you have to do is leave me a comment here and I will draw a random winner on December 7th. How exciting is that? Here is some more info about the book and Kyra. Enjoy!

Blindsided Synopsis:
After a successful first soccer season in L.A, Jesse Shaw heads to London with his best buddy, Hunter, but his world is turned upside down when a dangerous prank threatens his career and his blossoming relationship with Hunter’s cousin, Isabelle.

Isabelle Mills lives in Notting Hill with her parents and her twin sister, Georgia. When she finds out her cousin is coming to stay, along with his famous soccer player friend, her first instinct is to hibernate until they’ve gone. However, once she meets Jesse, everything changes. He’s everything she ever wanted, but with so many obstacles in their path, can she really risk putting her heart on the line?

Author Bio:
Kyra Lennon was born on the South coast of England, and to this day, still lives by the sea. After years spent working in retail, where she met enough versatile characters to write hundreds of books, she finally took the plunge and quit her day job. Kyra’s debut novel, Game On, was released in July 2012. While fiction writing has always been her passion, she also has numerous articles on a variety of topics published on prolific websites.

Book Review: Game On By Kyra Lennon

I have been an avid reader for many years. In the 6th grade is when I truly got hooked on books. I would read a book a day over the summers and when something was really interesting, I wouldn’t sleep until I was done reading it. As the years progressed (and there have been MANY years!), I read anything and everything. I began freelancing when I became pregnant with my son. I met a wonderful circle of people, and met some very close friends.

I had the pleasure of reading “Game On” while it was in progress. I know the author pretty well, but that has not swayed my decision on the book. You see, I refuse to read “50 Shades of Grey.” The whole idea of “wife porn” doesn’t really get me stoked about the books. Total fail!

And now, let’s talk about the book!!!

This is very exciting for me to be telling you about. I am a hopeless romantic and I love a little bit of suspicion in my books. “Game On” has both of that and much, much more! The main character, Leah, is a feisty one! She has a mouth on her! Her smart mouth reminds me of myself, just a British version! I also adore Radleigh. I don’t know what it is about him, but I just an’t get enough. Cocky guys are a huge turn on for me, and BONUS- he is a soccer player. Well, they call it football in England, so Leah calls it football. The supporting characters are delightful as well. They each add something very important to the story, but aren’t too overbearing like some other books I have read.

This is a definite MUST READ! You can purchase the Kindle edition or a regular book (who knew they still made books!) by clicking here.

Please feel free to leave your feedback here about the book as well! I look forward to your thoughts!!

Sunday Night Television Sucks!

This weekend has flown by, and I am not eagerly anticipating the week ahead. Weekends are my favorite time because my boyfriend is home to help with my toddler, and I can get five minutes of peace. The only thing that sucks is there is not much on television over the entire weekend. Saturdays suck, and Sundays do too. I am not a fan of “Once Upon a Time” or “Desperate Housewives,” so that rules out ABC for me. I have tuned into “Celebrity Apprentice” since it began, but I am not a fan of Lisa Lampanelli. I find her repulsive to say the least. I do like Arsenio Hall and Clay Aiken though, so I may continue to watch. I just wish there were more options available. Oh wait, there is. Cable. Yeah well that is not in our budget, so I can’t even toy with the idea of having many options to choose from. I mostly stick with ABC shows though, except for “American Idol,” “Law and Order: SVU,” and “Two and a Half Men.”

Tomorrow night is when Ben will choose his woman on “The Bachelor.” I am so not even impressed, but I want to watch “After the Final Rose.” Will be interesting to see if he has to defend his choice, depending on which one was chosen. I really like Lindzi and hope she is the one picked. I am glad that the next “Bachelorette” was chosen, because no one wants to see any more of Courtney than we had already have (pending she is the one not chosen).

That’s all for now. I am entirely too lazy to have links posted or much else to say. Hopefully my blogging mojo comes back, and I will have something interesting to post about tomorrow!
